The Tacoma Community College men’s basketball team’s run to the NWAACC title was derailed by Clackamas Community College, which came away with a 61-50 victory against the Titans in the conference tournament in Kennewick. The 50 points that the Titans were held to was the lowest point total they have ever had under coach Carl Howell.

Consecutive three-point daggers by Jeff Dorman and E.J. Manley killed a run by the Titans that had brought them to within three points with about eight minutes left in the game.

“They are a brutal match-up for us,” Howell acknowledged. “But we battled a great team, and we can’t forget we’ve had an outstanding season. There is a lot to be proud of.”

Anthony Enriquez scored 14 points to lead the Titans. Derrick Davis had 12.

Preceding the Clackamas game was a physical contest against Mt. Hood, in which the Titans outshot, outran and outplayed the Saints, winning easily 64-44.

For the Titans, Jordan Coby put up 14 points, while Western Region All-Star Chris Holmes had 14. Enriquez added 11.

Mt. Hood Southern Region All-Star Jamar Johnson struggled from the field, going 0-for-8. He finished with six points off free throws. Fellow all-star Earl Jones was the team high scorer, with nine points.

In the first round, the Titans beat the Peninsula Pirates handedly, 75-49.

The versatile Titans had three players in the double digits, including Holmes with 14 and Darious Walker with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Enriquez added another 13 points to the scoreboard.

The loss left the Titans, who were to play for third place against Yakima Valley, with a 24-4 record for the season.

Sophomores who played their last game with the Titans were Enriquez, Walker, Davis, Mario Peters,  Erik Evans and Brandon Magee.
