Postseason all-star games usually go one of two ways – blowout wins with a few highlight-reel plays sprinkled throughout the game, or exciting matchups that have the fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

Circle the latter. The much-ballyhooed contest between the 3A and 4A high school boys squads lived up to its billing, as the 4A team came from behind to notch a 108-107 win over the 3A team on March 16 at the WIBCA All-State game at Curtis High School.

Garfield’s Trevaunte Williams led all scorers in the game with 27 points, while Lincoln’s Tre’Shaun Fletcher paced the 3A’s with 17 points on the night.

“It was a great ending to a great game,” said Bellarmine Prep’s Lucas Meikle, who finished with nine points on the night for the 4A squad. “The last four minutes were really exciting.”

The game had the making of a blowout early, as the 3A squad raced out to a 17-point lead midway through third quarter. But Williams jump-started the 4A team to cut the deficit by eight at the end of the period. Facing a two-point deficit with two minutes left in the game, Williams drained a three-pointer from corner to give his squad a 108-107 lead. With 4.6 seconds left, Fletcher had a chance for the win with a three of his own, but it was off target.

“It was a great win, we hung in there really well when it could have been a lot worse trailing big in the third quarter,” said Curtis’ Dom Robinson, who finished with 15 points. Robinson, who led the Vikings to the state title two weeks prior, reminisced about the experience at the Dome. “We still have not gotten over it. It might take a while.”

With the summer all-star game circuit now underway, the Gonzaga-bound Meikle talked about his future plans. “I plan on playing in the Washington versus Oregon game down in Portland on April 20. It should be a great experience.”

In the afternoon opener between the 2B’s and 1B’s, LaConner’s Spencer Novak poured in a game-high 19 points to pace the 2B’s to a 94-89 win. The leading scorer in the three-game all-star fest was John Shine from Lynden, who threw in 30 points for the 2A squad as they defeated the 1A’s by a score of 92-78.
