Local wrestlers advance at districts

Wilson's Jake Ferris and Jacob Evens and Foss' Andrew Hahn qualified for the Mat Classic at the 3A wrestling districts at Bonney Lake on Feb. 10-11.

After dropping his first match, Evens rattled off four wins – including two by pins – to claim third place with a 6-5 win over Camas' Vince Huber in the 170-pound class. Like his teammate, Ferris claimed third place in the 195-pound bracket with a 13-5 win over Prairie's Austen Fuller.

Hahn pinned Mountain View's Benny Dixon midway through the first round before falling to Timberline's Dean Reginio to drop to the consolation bracket and eventually claimed fourth place. Foss also qualified two girls wrestlers at the district meet at Emerald Ridge, as sophomores Laura Dittell (112 pounds) and Jenny Dittell (118) each won two matches to take fourth place in their classes.

Tacoma Baptist will advance three wrestlers to the Mat Classic after taking part in the 2B districts at Chief Leschi on Feb. 11. Sophomore Matty Carroll (106 pounds) and seniors Jimmy Denis (120) and Kyle Delegard (152) qualified as all advanced to the finals of their brackets.

The Mat Classic takes place at the Tacoma Dome, beginning on Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. and continuing through Feb. 18.
