Bethany Montgomery led all scorers with 16 points, while Tia Briggs chipped in with 13 points as the Wilson Lady Rams punched their ticket to the Tacoma Dome and the 2013 State 3A tournament with a convincing 56-26 win over the Bonney Lake Panthers at the Mount Tahoma Gym last night.
While the Lady Rams struggled to find any kind of consistent offense, their defense was the one constant, holding the Lady Panthers to a mere five points in the fourth quarter with no field goals.
Montgomery – celebrating her 18th birthday – started slowly in the first half, but came on fast in the third quarter, going 3-for-5 from the field with nine total points in the second half. Overmatched from the beginning, the Lady Panthers could muster little offense outside of Voellger, with Jessyka Seger adding five points. Voellger led the Lady Panthers with 15 points.
Thinking ahead to the state tournament, Lady Rams’ head coach Michelle Birge had a few thoughts on the upcoming trip to the Tacoma Dome with her group of Wilson seniors. “This is a great reward for this group of girls who have worked so hard to get to this point the last four years. Now our concentration turns to winning the state 3A title.” Wilson will know their quarterfinal opponent around 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon with the tournament draw at the WIAA headquarters in Renton. Let the fun begin.
