From the very start, Curtis’ offensive efficiency and defensive dominance were on full display, as they wiped out Bellarmine Prep 53-29 to take the 4A district title tonight at the Showare Center.
Jacob Salazar and Carson Hollyoak early three-pointers to put the Lions up 6-2 early in the first, but from then on out it was all Vikings. Curtis outscored Bellarmine 19-2 for the duration of the quarter, as Dominic Robinson scored seven of his game-high 19 points in the period. The Vikings never looked back, forcing the Lions into 12 turnovers in the first half and collecting eight steals to help take a 31-14 lead at the break.
Bellarmine, meanwhile, could not find any offensive rhythm, going just 6-for-20 in the first half and 9-for-42 in the game. The closest the Lions would get in the second half is within 33-19 on Isaiah Flynn’s layup off a nice pass from Lucas Meikle. But Meikle was relatively shut down by Curtis, finishing with just eight points and six rebounds. Andre Lewis and Jayson Williams finished with eight points apiece for the Vikings. Curtis finished 22-for-47 from the field as a team.
Bellarmine Prep advances to play Arlington on Saturday at Puyallup High School at 4 p.m. in the state regionals, while Curtis will follow that by taking on Thomas Jefferson at 6 p.m. at Puyallup.
