Tarriers overwhelmed by Eagles in second half

After battling back to take the lead on the last play of the first half, Charles Wright couldn’t sustain the momentum, as Cedar Park Christian stormed back in the second half and ran past the Tarriers 42-17 tonight at Haertl Field in University Place.

Cedar Park Christian capitalized from two interceptions off Tarriers quarterback Henry Cheney in the first quarter, as Connor Johnson scored on a 39-yard run and Andrew Rickman later added a two-yard score to make it 12-0. But Charles Wright quickly responded, as Cheney hit Alexander Moore for a 44-yard completion on the next drive, and Desmond Jones capped it off two plays later with a one-yard touchdown. Jones ripped off a 30-yard run on the Tarriers’ next drive, and Travis Sowell hit a 34-yard field goal to cut it to 12-10. Jones – who finished with 12 carries for 72 yards – then scored on a one-yard touchdown run as time expired in the first half, after Cheney had connected with Andrew Williams on a 35-yard pass down the right sideline. Williams finished with eight catches for 128 yards.

But the second half was all Eagles, as Rickman ripped off a 43-yard touchdown run on Cedar Park’s second drive, and Ben Anderson cut through the Tarriers’ defense for a 54-yard touchdown late in the third to make it 26-17. The Eagles poured it on in the fourth, as Johnson returned a kickoff 70 yards for a score after Cedar Park had taken Cheney down in the end zone for a safety. Rickman capped the scoring with a 37-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
