A pair of Stadium Tigers runners won both the boys and girls races at the unofficial, preseason version of the Tacoma Public Schools cross country championships at Wright Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Stadium junior Shay Glackin-Coley led off by winning the boys 2.5-mile race in a time of 12 minutes and 53 seconds, something he noted was fulfilling after battling injuries in his first two years at Stadium. Lincoln’s Mecca Amen finished exactly a minute behind Glackin-Coley to take second place, while Stadium’s Zach Lam and Kyle Hammond took third and fourth, respectively. In all, the Tigers claimed six of the top ten finishing times in the boys’ race.
Junior Skye Chen-Johnson won the girls race in a time of 17 minutes and 46 seconds, just three seconds ahead of junior teammate Miri Hyman. It was the first cross country win for Chen-Johnson in her high school career, and the Tigers’ girls looked just as impressive as the boys.
Stadium, Lincoln, Wilson, Foss and Mount Tahoma will meet again at Wright Park on Oct. 16 at 3:45 p.m. for the official Tacoma Public Schools Championships.
