Seniors come through in Lady Crusaders’ season finale

Senior guard Ali Oatridge scored a team-high 12 points, and senior forward Sarah Zeitler added 10 points as Tacoma Baptist took a 44-31 win over Seattle Lutheran on Tuesday night to secure the SeaTac 2B third seed to the Bi-District tournament.

Ashley Brooks scored four points in the first quarter for Tacoma Baptist, and Oatridge banked in a three-pointer to make it 9-5 heading into the second quarter. The defense buckled down in the second period, as the Crusaders extended the lead to 15-5 and held the Saints scoreless until Olivia Wake’s layup with 1:15 until halftime. Seattle Lutheran was just 4-for-22 from the field in the first half, and committed 16 turnovers.

After Seattle Lutheran’s Abbi Sanders – who tied Hailey Meyer with a team-high 12 points – pulled the Saints within 31-23 with a jumper early in the fourth quarter, the Crusaders put the game away with a 13-0 run. Oatridge nailed her second three-pointer during the run, and Zeitler capped the stretch with two free throws.

Zeitler finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and three steals, while Ashley Brooks added 10 points and eight rebounds and Jennifer Brooks had eight points and six rebounds for the Crusaders.

Tacoma Baptist will travel to face Orcas Island, Darrington or La Conner on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. in their district playoff opener.
