Drew Griffin’s interception of a Ross Bowers pass in overtime sealed a 20-17 win for Bellarmine Prep over Bothell in the state quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Mount Tahoma Stadium.
The win secured a trip to the Tacoma Dome on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for a semifinal matchup against top-ranked Camas
Bothell had some success slowing down the Lion running game and like he did last week, Lou Millie took to the air with both Garret McKay and Griffin contributing mightily to the Bellarmine cause. McKay hauled in 9 catches for 113 yards.
Millie, who engineered the win for the Lions last week against Newport, threw for 165 yards and a touchdown to lead the Lions past the Cougars.
After getting out of the gate fast with an early 10-0 lead, the Lions offense became stuck in neutral as Bothell would score 17 unanswered points to take a 17-10 lead early in the third quarter.
But Millie found Nick Selden from five yards out with 7:08 left to tie it at 17.
Matt Philichi nailed a 37-yard field goal for the Lions in overtime, setting up Griffin's game-clinching pick.
“I can’t say enough about the job our assistant coaches have done this year, it’s been a great run with hopefully a couple of more weeks to go,” said Bellarmine head coach Tom Larsen.
