Behind the 14 points of Tre’Shaun Fletcher and 12 points from Ahmaad Rorie, the Lincoln Abes advanced to the 2013 3A State Tournament by routing the Columbia River Chieftains 55-35 tonight at the Mount Tahoma Gym in front of a packed house. Isaiah Smith lead Columbia River with 14 points.
Both teams started out frigid, connecting on a combined seven of 28 shots in the opening quarter as Lincoln held a 9-4 lead. The Abes turned up the jets on the offensive end and put the clamps on defensively as the Chieftains had a hard time establishing any kind of consistent offense all night long. Lincoln would extend the lead by holding Columbia River to a mere 1-for-9 in the second quarter and the Abes would take a 26-8 into the locker room at half time.
The Chieftains would show a little more resolve in the third quarter, but the Abes would not be seriously threatened the rest of the game. With the outcome of the game no longer in doubt, both teams opened up their offense considerably in the final quarter, with Chieftain reserve Rian Bassett throwing down two monster dunks which brought a little excitement to the Columbia River crowd. Not to be outdone, Fletcher answered with a little mid-air magic of his own, one off a steal and another slam off of a great backdoor assist from Rorie which got the Lincoln faithful energized.
Now everybody waits for the 3A & 4A drawing to be held on Sunday afternoon at WIAA headquarters in Renton at 3:00 pm, to see who will be paired up for the quarterfinals on Thursday at the Tacoma Dome.
