Lady Abes fall short against Prairie in semifinals

Tamia Braggs had another dominant effort inside, but it wasn't enough for Lincoln as Prairie pulled away late for a 60-49 win over the Lady Abes in the 3A district semifinals tonight at Clover Park High School.

Braggs was 9-for-13 from the field for a game-high 22 points, and added 17 rebounds and four blocks for Lincoln. She scored 11 points in the first quarter as Lincoln took a 15-14 lead. But Prairie's pressure defense began to wreak havoc on the Lady Abes in the second quarter, and the Falcons took a 29-25 lead into the break.

Lincoln held tough, limiting Prairie's offensive opportunities early in the third quarter and retaking a 36-34 lead on Braggs' put-back with 2:25 to go in the period. But they wouldn't lead again, as the Falcons responded with a 16-3 run, capped by Cherita Daugherty's steal and layup two minutes into the fourth quarter. Lincoln never seriously threatened again.

Kiaira Thomas finished with 12 points for Lincoln, while Aamira Turner added seven points and three steals.

The Lady Abes will face Kennedy Catholic for the third seed to the state regionals on Saturday night at Clover Park at 8 p.m.
