Bellarmine rebounds with rout of Gig Harbor for Narrows 4A title

What a difference a week makes. The Bellarmine Prep Lions, led by the combined 442 yards from Jamal Ervin, Nate Golterman and Ahmad Lewis, buried the Gig Harbor Tides 59-14 to claim their third consecutive Narrows League 4A title tonight.

In one of the most dominant halves of football this year, the Lions rolled out to a 52-0 lead at the break. Ervin and Golterman took turns ripping off long touchdown runs. Golterman had scoring runs of 77 and 80 yards while Ervin scored on runs of 68, 6, and 2 yards as first half became a runaway early in the second quarter.

The Lions had a practice week that could only be described as “maybe the best we’ve ever had around here” by coach Tom Larsen, which served as a catalyst after the Lions were stung by the home loss to Olympia last week.

With the continuous clock in effect for the entirety of the second half, the Tides scored twice to save face before a large crowd that anticipated seeing a Narrows League title. “It was an incredible performance,” Larsen said. “They really responded tremendously after last week’s loss to Olympia. Bring on the second season.”

The Lions await the fifth seed from the Wesco League, the Kamiak Knights, next Saturday night at Mount Tahoma at 7:00 p.m. in a opening round district game.
