The girls soccer bi-district playoffs begin on Thursday night, and several local squads will be trying to punch their ticket to the state tournament. However, unlike previous seasons, the district tournament has changed to a new format, allowing the regular season champions of the leagues to earn an automatic berth into the state tournament. That means that for everyone that finished second or below in their league, they must win two games to qualify. The second round of districts is set for Saturday. Here’s a quick look at the schedule for local squads.
Bellarmine Prep (Narrows 4A #3) vs. Tahoma(SPSL 4A North #3), 5 p.m., Curtis High School – loser out
With a Bellarmine win, they would play at Art Crate Stadium on Saturday at noon against the winner between Rogers and Kentwood in a loser-out, winner-to-state contest.
Wilson (Narrows 3A #2) vs. Peninsula (SPSL 3A #5), 7:30 p.m., Stadium High School – loser out
With a Wilson win, they would play at Highline Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 10 a.m. against the winner between Foss and Enumclaw in a loser-out, winner-to-state contest.
Foss (Narrows 3A #4) vs. Enumclaw (SPSL 3A #3), 5:30 p.m., Sunset Chevy Stadium – loser out
With a Foss win, they would play at Highline Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 10 a.m. against the winner between Wilson and Peninsula in a loser-out, winner-to-state contest.
Curtis (SPSL 4A South #1) vs. Camas (GSHL 4A #1), 7:30 p.m., McKenzie Stadium (Vancouver) – both to state
The Vikings, already assured of a trip to state, are simply playing for seeding. With a win they will play for the No. 1 seed to state at Mount Tahoma Stadium on Saturday at 2 p.m. against the winner between Kentridge and Gig Harbor. With a loss, they will play the loser of those teams for the No. 3/4 seed on Saturday at noon at Curtis High School.
