The Tacoma Weekly has just received word that the sale of the Seattle Impact professional indoor soccer team to Tacoma's Lane Smith is happening.

The Tacoma Stars will take over the remainder of the Seattle Impact's Major Arena Soccer League scheduled games and it appears likely this will be starting THIS Friday night as the Stars host their old MISL rival San Diego Sockers at the Showare Center in Kent.

First kick would be at 7:30 p.m. - Stay tuned as more details will be forthcoming.

According to a new report from and the Tacoma Stars, Lane Smith, majority owner of the Stars is in talks to take over the ailing and controversial Seattle Impact FC franchise, which is currently in the midst of its first season in the national Major Arena Soccer League.

The Impact will be immediately rebranded the Tacoma Stars and will finish out the MASL season, if all goes according to plan. The Stars, currently 8-0 are in first place if the inaugural Western Indoor Soccer League and would reportedly finish out the WISL season as well.

It's going to be a big day for football in Tacoma on Saturday. By way of state bracket magic, both Lincoln and Bellarmine will host state tournament quarterfinal football games this weekend against higher-ranked teams.

The 35-30 Lincoln (11-0) victory moves the Abes on to the quarterfinals of the 3A state football tournament, but they won't be leaving town. Lincoln Bowl will host its second state playoff game in a row as the Abes welcome 2nd-ranked Eastside Catholic (10-1).
