It was a brutal first half for the Stadium boys basketball team. Nothing was going right. Layups, jumpers, passes and free throws all going awry, which led to a 27-20 halftime deficit to visiting Kentlake. By no means was Kentlake setting the nets on fire or putting on a dazzling display of basketball.

The 4A Narrows champion Bellarmine Lady Lions opened West Central District tournament play like the talented, veteran team that they are and quickly put the visiting Emerald Ridge Jaguars out of commission with a 65-27 thumping in front of the home crowd at Bellarmine Prep High School.

Junior guard McKenzie Alton filled up the nets for 17 points in the first half, pacing the Lady Lions to an insurmountable 43-14 advantage at the break. The Tacoma Weekly has just received word that the sale of the Seattle Impact professional indoor soccer team to Tacoma's Lane Smith is happening.

The Tacoma Stars will take over the remainder of the Seattle Impact's Major Arena Soccer League scheduled games and it appears likely this will be starting THIS Friday night as the Stars host their old MISL rival San Diego Sockers at the Showare Center in Kent.

First kick would be at 7:30 p.m. - Stay tuned as more details will be forthcoming.

According to a new report from and the Tacoma Stars, Lane Smith, majority owner of the Stars is in talks to take over the ailing and controversial Seattle Impact FC franchise, which is currently in the midst of its first season in the national Major Arena Soccer League.

The Impact will be immediately rebranded the Tacoma Stars and will finish out the MASL season, if all goes according to plan. The Stars, currently 8-0 are in first place if the inaugural Western Indoor Soccer League and would reportedly finish out the WISL season as well.
