Lions find proper balance heading into district play
With the return of a healthy Sarah Hartwell, fully recovered from a concussion suffered against Shelton three weeks ago, the Bellarmine girls basketball team glided to the Narrows League title with a 69-45 victory over South Kitsap. The comprehensive victory over the Wolves, who were 10-0 in the Bridge Division of the league, gave the Lions the No. 1 seeding in the West Central District tournament this week, where they will play Auburn High School, the No. 9 seed from the SPSL. Ring Masters: Three Tacoma fighters win championships at Golden Gloves
The spectators at the 62nd annual Golden Gloves at the Tacoma Dome last weekend got three rounds of boxing out of Marquice Weston, as he defeated Daniel Mattoon of Lewiston in the 178 lbs. championship. That’s what the rules allow, and although fans of the Tacoma Boxing Club might have enjoyed more of Weston, they saw all they really needed to after the first three or four punches of the first round.
