Council should choose auditor from Democratic nominees
By Tacoma Weekly Editorial Board
Selecting a new auditor for Pierce County has turned into a controversial matter. Pat McCarthy, the current auditor, will have to leave the position because she recently won the election for county executive.
Confusion has arisen due to the fact that when McCarthy was elected, first in 2002 and again in 2006, the auditor was a partisan position. McCarthy is a Democrat. In 2007 voters approved a change to the county charter that switched this to a non-partisan position.
