We endorse Catherine Ushka-Hall for position 2 on Tacoma School Board. Her involvement in school district efforts, such as bond levies and committees, as well as larger education support groups, such as Stand for Children and Tacoma Citizens for Schools, shows her commitment to education in general, and the Tacoma School District, specifically.
As a mother of two middle school children, Ushka-Hall will bring the perspective of a parent to the board’s decision-making process.
We believe she has the experience and background needed to be a strong, effective board member. She is dedicated to the best interest of the students and education’s impact on the larger community.
We endorse incumbent Kurt Miller for position no. 4 on the board. Miller has had a long career in youth education and intervention programs, which gives him a unique perspective in dealing with at-risk and under-achieving youth, two of the district’s most pressing issues. During his time on the school board, Miller has proven that he asks tough questions and desires to fully understand implications of an issue before voting to support an item. We believe Miller would serve the district well in another term.
