Tacoma leaders should focus on Tacoma, not Arizona

By Randy Boss

Let me ask you this question. If thousands of Canadians were streaming over the border into Washington every day transporting drugs and diseases, robbing and murdering Washington citizens, clogging our emergency rooms and increasing our medical costs, stuffing our classrooms with kids who cannot speak English and requiring all of us to pay higher property taxes to feed and educate their children while they demand (not request) social services from you and me, would you be mad?

If the State of Washington had asked the federal government for help by enforcing federal laws to stop the flow of illegal immigration from Canada into Washington for years and years and yet they stood idly by and would do absolutely nothing, then would you be mad?

When you finally had enough and demanded that the Washington State Legislature simply take the federal immigration law and copy it word for word into the state law books so that the police in Washington could legally do what the federal government is legally required to do but will not - would you then be mad that people who know nothing about the personal impact of these illegal immigrants on your life and your community decided to “rebuke” you?

Shame on Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland and councilmembers Jake Fey, Lauren Walker, Ryan Mello and Victoria Woodards for opposing the constitutional state rights of Arizona to protect and defend themselves from foreign invasion. Their stupid and unnecessary action will only encourage further aggression by these foreign invaders and will serve to leave the barn door wide open for these illegal immigrants to enter the United States through Arizona and freely move north to Washington, where we will become the next Arizona. If you doubt that maybe you should take a look at Yakima!

It seems to me that Tacoma has enough troubles of its own and should be the last people to be throwing rocks at others. The mayor was quoted as saying that the Arizona law will “jeopardize public safety” - the people’s (legal citizens of Arizona) public safety has already been violated. She says the Arizona law is “un-American” and it violates the “constitutional right of due process” but the constitution applies to legal citizens of the United States, not to illegal invaders from a foreign country!

You know what? Tacoma City Council and the mayor have more than enough work to keep them busy in Tacoma. They should spend more time “earning” the pay they are receiving from the people of Tacoma by concentrating on fixing the many problems of Tacoma and leave the State of Arizona to figure out how to solve its own problems. They seem to be doing a better job than Tacoma!
