HIT-AND-RUN CRASH
Police blocked off the intersection of South 24th Street and Pacific Avenue on July 20 to investigate a hit-and-run crash on July 20. The crash was reported about 6 a.m. The suspect hit one vehicle, crashing into a parked car. The driver of the second vehicle was seriously injured. A person in the parked car was slightly injured. The man who caused the accident ran away. Officers took him into custody a short time later. He was taken to a hospital.
MAN HITS FRIEND IN HEAD
Police went to a home in the 1400 block of South 56th Street on July 16. A distraught man barricaded himself inside his home. A friend had stopped by earlier to visit. The man living in the home hit his friend, who ran away and called police. When officers arrived the man refused to come outside. He later surrendered.
POSSIBLE BOMB DISCOVERED
Police received a call about a suspicious item in the road near the intersection of South 19th and Tyler streets on July 15. Officer found an item described as an aerosol can with wires coming out of it. The bomb squad was called out.
FATHER CHARGED IN TODDLER’S DEATH
A 25-year-old man was arrested on July 14 for allegedly shaking his 23-month-old daughter. The child was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. She died on July 15 after being taken off life support after tests showed she had no brain activity. Prosecutors have charged Andrew Houston III with second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty and is being held in jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
Paramedics were called to an apartment in the 1200 block of North Pearl Street. They found the girl, Briyana Houston, severely injured. Doctors discovered she had retinal hemorrhaging, skull fractures, liver damage and brain injuries. They told officers the injuries were consistent with a child being shaken and subjected to blunt force trauma.
MISSING TEEN FOUND
A 16-year-old Parkland girl reported missing by her family was found in Tacoma on July 10. Candra Goggans was located in the 7800 block of Ainsworth Avenue. Detectives with Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spoke to the girl. She was taken into custody as an alleged runaway for further interviews.
