TacomaWeekly

Online opportunities expanded

Starting this week, Tacoma Weekly readers will receive an invitation in every article they read to join our new online community. We have recently added increased options for readers to interact with our print and online content, as well as post some of their own directly to our website, tacomaweekly.com.

At the end of articles in this edition of Tacoma Weekly and in all future editions, readers will see an invitation to post their comments on our website about the articles.

We hope our new online community will open up new avenues of communication between our employees and readers, creating a two-way dialogue between Tacoma Weekly and the community, and creating a stronger connection throughout the Tacoma community.

Readers can now log onto tacomaweekly.com and post upcoming events in our online calendar, as well as share pictures and videos directly through the site. Another feature allows readers to share their thoughts and opinions on what we publish through an online message board at the bottom of each article.

Because of space limitations in the printed version of the Weekly, we cannot always include some material. Our re-vamped website allows for things such as listings for events outside of our general coverage area.

Members of our staff have profiles in the online community section. Readers can visit to learn more about the people who make the newspaper and website possible.

Writers can put material in the community section that augments a story that appeared in the newspaper, such as additional photographs or other information.

We have also joined the Twitter community, which allows our followers on the social networking site to get instant, up-to-date information about local news, events and entertainment. This tool also links users to our articles, the moment they are posted on our website. This account is twitter.com/tacomaweekly.

We also have RSS feeds for people to use in their various online tools such as iGoogle or MyYahoo.

Not only can writers add content to a story, community members can as well. For instance, if we cover a football game a parent who was there can add to the story the photos and video they took of the game.
