The merchants in Fircrest are a close-knit bunch. That is evident by the way they are reaching out to help one of their own in her time of need.
Geraldine Budrovich opened her business Jerika, a specialty lamp store, in Gig Harbor about 30 years ago. She relocated to Fircrest 15 years ago. Last December she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In February she had a tumor removed.
As a result of her health condition, Budrovich has needed time to recuperate. Her employees have stepped up, handling the day-to-day operation of Jerika while she recovers.
To show their support, other business owners have planned a fundraiser scheduled for 5-8 p.m. on April 18. Poppy Seed Cafe will supply food and beverages.
Auctions items include lunch at Viafore’s Italian Delicatessen, tickets to upcoming events at Tacoma Dome and books on topics of local interest. Green Cottage Pets and Good Karma Boutique are among the other Fircrest businesses offering items and lending support.
Helping out a neighbor in a difficult time is a long-standing American tradition. Geraldine Budrovich has some very good neighbors indeed.
The event will take place at Jerika, located at 614 Regents Blvd.
