Tacoma Police Department seeks the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of an assault on a disabled woman that is being investigated as a hate crime. The incident happened on Nov. 5 in Wapato Park. The victim was with her caregiver in the parking lot, holding hands as they walked. The suspect approached the two women, told them they did not belong there and called them lesbians. He grabbed the victim by her hair and scratched her. The caregiver pushed the man away and he fled on foot. He is described as white, 25 to 30, 6 feet tall, with a medium build, brown hair, brown eyes and thick eyebrows. He wore blue jeans, a green shirt and a gray hooded sweatshirt.
A man suspected in 26 armed robberies of pizza outlets, gas stations and sandwich shops around Pierce County was arrested on Dec. 11 by Lakewood police officers, shortly after a Subway on South Tacoma Way in Lakewood was robbed. He is a suspect in 11 robberies in Tacoma.
Washington State Patrol troopers responded to a collision on Tacoma Narrows Bridge on Dec. 10 at approximately 2:15 a.m. It occurred on the older bridge, with eastbound traffic. The crash blocked two lanes.
An 8-month-old baby girl who was severely shaken died of her injuries on Dec. 9. Leileah Flowers of Tacoma passed away at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. Earlier in the day her father, 20-year-old Ivryee J. Flowers, was charged with first-degree assault of a child. He is in jail in lieu of $500,000 bail. With the baby’s death, the charges could be changed. The baby was brought to the hospital on Dec. 8. According to court documents, the father told detectives he was playing a video game and became frustrated that his daughter was crying.
A man robbed the AM/PM at 1101 N. Pearl St. on Dec. 6. He entered the store wearing a mask, gloves and a hooded sweatshirt. He demanded cash and fled.
