Paws-Abilities Total Dog Center caters to your dog’s whole health

Paws-Abilities Total Dog Center has teamed up with Total K-9 Indoor Health and Wellness Center, Fairytails Grooming Salon and area alternative practitioners and trainers to become the Tacoma area’s first ever “dog community center.” Paws-Abilities has everything a children’s recreation center would have only it’s for the four-legged “kids” in your life – from after school programs and day camps, to puppy kindergarten and fitness and health programs, Paws-Abilities provides a facility that will exercise your dog’s mind, body and spirit.

Jennifer Babb owns and operates Paws-Abilities. She wants to see all of Washington State with well-trained dogs and all dogs to be with knowledgeable humans. “We use the dog to help bond the family together by doing activities with their dog,” she said. “We’re a place where dogs can bring their families for health, educational and recreational activities.”

After two decades in business, it’s obvious that the good folks at Paws-Abilities know what they’re doing. For 20 years the business operated in Tukwila but then moved to Pierce County to offer dog training services designed to help all wounded warriors, with both physical and emotional disabilities including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Paws-Abilities has grown hand-over-paw since then, and even won first-place in KING-5’s Best of Western Washington (you can vote for them again this year by visiting HYPERLINK "" \t "_blank"

Now Tacoma's largest dog facility, Paws-Abilities offers behavior modification classes and training using only positive methods; indoor swimming including a therapy tub, paddle pool and a 15-foot swim spa; treadmills; self serve dog washes and professional grooming by Fairytails Grooming Salon – nail clippings are always free and walk-ins are welcome.

To keep dogs healthy on the inside, Paws-Abilities provides rotating practitioners of alternative health methods including acupuncture, massage therapy, laser therapy rehabilitation and chiropractic care. The center features a retail pet supply store filled with everything a dog wants or needs approved by veterinarians, trainers and breeders.

Paws-Abilities offers sport activities that include classes and workshops in Agility, Rally, Treibball and Nosework. The Paws-Abilities Dog Facility is matted and brightly lit for the safety of your family and dog. The center features more than 12,000-sq.-ft. dedicated to dog training, indoor fitness and sports, including over 2,000-sq. ft. space for puppy training classes in the "PuppyGarten" training room, and a 360-sq.-ft. conference room. Flyball, breed ring handling classes and canine good citizen classes are also offered at Paws-Abilities. And the best part is that classes at Paws-Abilities won’t break your budget, as quality training is offered at affordable prices. The center works with Pasado’s Safe Haven to provide monthly low-cost spay/neutering and microchipping.

Special events happen year-round at Paws-Abilities. This month, dogs and their families are invited to celebrate Halloween at the “Howwwl-o-ween Haunted Dog House” – complete with costume contest and special surprises in the “Boo-tique” – from noon to 5 p.m. (Please, no spooky dogs or werewolf costumes.) Cost to get in is $5 or a pet food donation to support Lighthouse Storehouse food resource center in Fife.
