As a specialist in prosthodontics, Dr. Keith Phillips is proud to lend his advanced dental expertise to patients in need of complex procedures. In addition to general dentistry services, his practice has the capability to perform procedures such as bridges, implants, dentures and more – all under one roof. Phillips received an additional three years of dental training following the typical four years of dental school in an American Dental Association accredited graduate program. This advanced training is put to the test every day when he sees patients who may be self-conscious of their own smile due to missing teeth, as well as those who are in so much pain that they may be unable to eat.
“It has been determined by the World Health Organization that not having teeth is a true disability,” he said. “There is something very special about giving someone back their smile. There have been many times that it brought a tear to my eye.”
One of his primary specialties is the immediate-function dental implants, an increasingly popular treatment for those in need of a complete smile makeover. The procedure involves the surgical placement of four dental implants that are used to support a full-arch fixed denture. “This procedure restores a patient’s smile, building confidence and self-esteem,” Phillips said. “Many patients see a dramatic improvement in functionality and their overall health as they are able to eat a wider variety of nutritious food.”
Phillips uses a 3-D CT scan to evaluate the proper implant placement, along with computer-aided design (CAD) software to ensure precise fit and a natural-looking smile.
Unlike many other dental practices, patients can receive multiple levels of services through Phillips’ office, which also includes three general dentists and three hygienists.
“We also have an in-house laboratory to help make the teeth, so we have a good level of control over quality,” he said. “I’ve been trained to do prosthetic work as well as surgical work, so patients do not need to bounce from one office to another.”
Patient comfort is a priority, and sedation is available to those who may be anxious to undergo certain procedures. “We do everything we can to make sure the patient is comfortable throughout the entire process,” Phillips said.
Prior to opening his own private practice, Phillips served on the faculty of a number of schools such as University of Pennsylvania, University of Southern California and University of Washington. He is also a nationally and internationally respected dental clinician, lecturer and researcher, and continues to lecture on implant dentistry at universities worldwide.
