Be Well: Hopkins and Shin Family Dentistry

Most dentists recommend getting an oral checkup at least twice a year. With the pain associated with going to the dentist, these appointments can be difficult to make. Luckily, with community dentists like Dennis Hopkins and Bowman Shin, that pain can be easily alleviated.

Located on 2748 Milton Way, Hopkins and Shin Family Dentistry and Sedation has been a part of the Milton Community for 19 years. The practice boasts a gentle approach to dental work, offering sedation for high fear patients. The practice uses Nitrous Oxide, which is used for patients who are slightly nervous, as it helps them relax and is great for older children, according to the doctors.

The doctors also provide the option of an oral pill version of a sedative. With the help of the pill, an hour's worth of dental work can be done in what feels like just a few minutes to the patient. Larger operations like bridge work or root canals can be much more tolerable via sedation.

Beyond the gentle approach, the practice offers a variety of services and is available six days a week, as well as offering evening hour appointments.

Root canals, extractions, crown and bridge, basic restoration and cosmetics are all available by appointment.

Hopkins and Shin also offer both Invisalign, a clear alternative to braces, and treatments for Sleep Apnea that serve as an alternative to restrictive CPAP masks.

“As dentists, foremost, we want to help people. The dental field allows a creative approach to working with our hands,” Hopkins said.

The practice serves as a cheaper option for older patients, as Hopkins and Shin give a 5 percent discount for seniors.

Though the dentists do take emergency walk-ins, it is preferred that patients make an appointment, to ensure the doctors have enough time for a complete treatment.

Dr. Hopkins is a University of Washington alumni who received both his undergraduate and dental degree at the school. Hopkins has been a member of the community longer than his dental practice, graduating from Fife High School.

Dr. Shin attended the University of Washington for his undergraduate career but attended Nova Southeastern Dental School to receive his dental degree.
