Wizard’s Hairspa is sponsoring a charitable event for Coalition: HUMAnE Spay and Neuter Clinic while celebrating Wizard’s 30ish anniversary. It happens at the Swiss Tavern on Sept. 18 from 3-10 p.m. The event will feature live music, a silent auction and a raffle.
Wizard’s Hairspa (5924 Lake Grove St. S.W. in Lakewood) has been turning heads in the South Sound since 1979. Owner Mark Leibel started with the Ozone Tonsorial Parlor in the Stadium District and then co-owned Ozone II in Lakewood. He turned Ozone II into Wizard’s Hairspa in late 1979. In the early 90s, Mark, his wife Deborah and Benno Waler opened Galleria on Broadway, a salon, gallery and photography studio in downtown Tacoma. Galleria on Broadway and other galleries created the Downtown Art Walk.
Wizard’s is celebrating its 30ish anniversary with this charitable event that it plans to hold yearly.
At Coalition: HUMAnE the mission is to promote and provide low cost spay and neuter services for pet cats and dogs as well as feral cats in an attempt to stop the needless killing of companion animals due to overpopulation.
To create the Coalition: HUMAnE Spay and Neuter clinic, volunteers from the Peninsula Spay/Neuter project led an effort with other local animal welfare groups to open a clinic based on the Humane Alliance National Spay/Neuter Response Team Model. The clinic opened in March of 2008 and has performed over 20,000 surgeries to date. Euthanasia is down 40 percent in Pierce County. Learn more at www.coalitionhumane.org.
