The Tacoma Art museum held a ground breaking ceremony this morning to mark the beginning of the museum's building expansion and redesign to house the Haub Family Collection of Western American Art.
The ceremony began with a blessing by the Puyallup Tribe and a performance by the Puyallup Canoe Family and included speeches by U.S. Congressman Derek Kilmer, Gov. Jay Inslee, Mayor Marilyn Strickland, art collector Christian Haub, TAM Board President Steve Barger and Director Stephanie A. Stebich.
The $15 million wing will double TAM’s exhibit space just 10 years after the museum opened, while the Haub collection will springboard the museum among the top ranks of American Western Art in the nation.
The exhibit will open in fall of 2014.
