Shoppers at the Tacoma Mall this morning sound the sort of hot deals they weren't expecting.
At 9:52 a.m. today 10 companies of Tacoma Firefighters (five engines, two ladders, two medic companies and command staff) responded to a reported fire at the Macy's store at the Tacoma Mall.
The first firefighters spotted fire showing from the main floor escalator of the large retail store. Crews worked quickly to evacuate the store, dismantle a portion of the escalator to extinguish the fire in the mechanical area of the unit and the fire that had extended to the second floor escalator well, and ventilated the smoke from the building.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and there were no injuries to report.
