Sound Transit will hold a ribbon-cutting on Oct. 6 to celebrate the start of Sounder commuter rail service to South Tacoma and Lakewood. It will feature free train rides and activities for the entire family. The launch celebration will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakewood Station, located at 11424 Pacific Highway S.W. The first train will leave at noon. A kids zone will be set up at the South Tacoma Station, located at 5650 S. Washington St. It will operate from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children can enjoy face painting, balloon animals, model paper trains and music by Mariachi Mexico. Other activities will take place at Freighthouse Square, where a train to Lakewood will leave at 2 p.m.
