Ronstadt Generations to play concert for Parkinson’s

Ronstadt Generations, America’s first family of Southwestern Americana music, will perform at University of Puget Sound on Friday, Sept. 20.
Headed by Michael J. Ronstadt, the younger brother of renowned singer Linda Ronstadt, the multitalented trio will perform at 8 p.m. in Kilworth Memorial Chapel on the campus of University of Puget Sound. Ticket information is below.
Three months ago former state representative and Puget Sound alumnus Dennis Flannigan (class of ’61) and singer/songwriter Bryan Bowers began plans for this visit by Ronstadt Generations. When Grammy Award-winner Linda Ronstadt announced last month that her singing career was ending due to Parkinson’s, Flannigan arranged for the proceeds of the concert to benefit Pedaling for Parkinson's, a national rehabilitation program that is offered at the Morgan Family YMCA on Pearl Street in Tacoma. The program aims to reduce the symptoms of the debilitating disease.
Steeped in family music traditions dating to the 1840s, when his great-grandfather emigrated from Germany to the Southwest, Michael J. Ronstadt and his two sons Michael G. and Petie Ronstadt have committed to carry on the legacy.
The group’s repertoire reaches back to the end of the 19th century, while looking ahead to the 21st, with a rich mix of original material alongside traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs. Their CDs and albums include “America, Our Home.” “Lulo,” “Prelude” and “Memories of Christmas.”
Guest artists for the show include innovative percussionist Artis the Spoonman and autoharp master and performing artist Bryan Bowers. The event is presented by Associated Students of the University of Puget Sound Cultural Events.
