Runners and walkers will descend upon Northeast Tacoma this Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, for the 19th annual Norpoint Turkey Trot. The event is stuffed with holiday activities and features a 5k chip-timed run, a 2-mile non-timed run/walk and a Kids' Trot for ages 3 to 10. The race has been bringing families together on Thanksgiving morning since 1995 and for many it has become as much a part of the holiday tradition as pumpkin pie and football.
Both the 5k and 2 mile routes begin at 9 am at the Center at Norpoint and wind through the streets of Northeast Tacoma, providing mountain and Puget Sound views for participants. The Kids' Trot remains on the Center at Norpoint campus. Participants in the Kids' Trot are invited to join Norpoint staff for crafts and games in the gym while parents run/walk in the 5k or 2-mile events.
A shoe certificate from South Sound Running will be awarded to the overall male and female winners of the 5k. All participants are eligible for random prizes given out during the awards ceremony and there is a costume contest for the best turkey costumes. Trotters signed up by November 22 receive a Turkey Trot t-shirt.
The entry fee for both distances is $25 through November 22, $35 November 23-24 and $45 on the morning of the race. The Kids’ Trot is $10 if pre-registered and $20 on the day of the event.
At South Sound Running stores in Tacoma and Puyallup participants can register in person at the low price of $25 through November 25. Visit MetroParksTacoma.org/Trot to sign up, view course maps, and get more information.
