The Port of Tacoma will mark its 95th anniversary Nov. 5. Pierce County citizens voted to create the port district in 1918 on about 240 acres of land, and the Edmore was the first vessel to call the new port in 1921.
Today, the Port encompasses about 2,700 acres in the Port industrial area. Tacoma has grown into one of the top container ports in North America and a major gateway to Asia and Alaska.
