Today just happens to be national "It's My Party" day. It's a great opportunity to just have some fun. It's a party day. You can make it simple, or elaborate. Invite family and friends. Being mid-October, a Fall or Halloween theme is in order.
Research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day but odds are that there is some link to pop star Lesley Gore's 1963 song "It's My Party."
And it just so happens to be a day when Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium welcomes the arrival of 6-week-old Malayan tiger cub "Berani" from Tulsa Zoo and his introduction to 7-week-old Sumatran cub, "Dumai." Both tigers are extremely rare and their subspecies are endangered. It’s unusual to rear different subspecies together.
Berani flew in from Tulsa on a private jet to the Narrows Airport and saw Dumai for the first time. Both were less than impressed and seemed to rather be petted by their handlers than play with each other. But they did play up to the media cameras.
Both will stay at PDZA for two to three years before they find their way to breeding programs in hopes to save the species from extinction.
