Dale Chihuly and his team of glass blowers welcomed more than 1,500 service members and their families to the Museum of Glass for a Military Appreciation day Feb. 18.
For participants, predominately based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the event featured exhibits and demonstrations by local artists. For the glass blowers, the day was a way to show their support and appreciation for members of the military community. Chihuly, a Tacoma native, is a renowned glass blowing artist whose works are included in more than 200 museums worldwide.
“I think it turned out great. People seem to enjoy it and they had many interesting questions,” Chihuly said. “We are honored to be able to do this for all the men and women who serve this country.”
