The 11 members for the city of Tacoma’s Medical Cannabis Task Force were revealed during the Aug. 25 meeting of Tacoma City Council’s Public Safety, Human Services and Education Committee. They are: Laurie Jinkins, representing Tacoma/Pierce County Health Department; Stan Rumbaugh, an attorney; Duane Wilkerson, executive director of Pierce County AIDS Foundation; Patricia Lecy-Davis, owner of Embellish Multi-space Salon; Dr. Gregory Carter, a physician and clinical professor at University of Washington School of Medicine; State Senator Debbie Regala; McKenzie Allen, former police officer and Citizen Review Panel member; Carol Owens, representing Safe Streets; Fred Scruggs from Tacoma Police Department; Dr. Bob Thiessen, an oncologist and Don Meridan, a medical cannabis patient and dispensary owner.
Mayor Marilyn Strickland said the professional backgrounds and leadership positions that the members have held "will dispel the notion that this is a bunch of stoners who want to get high."
Strickland said Tacoma is using Sacramento as a model for how to regulate the distribution of medical marijuana.
