J’Maka Love threw for 186 yards and four touchdowns as the Lincoln Abes pulled away in the second half and beat the Foss Falcons by a score of 32-7 on Friday night at historic Lincoln Bowl. The win sets up a date this Friday night against the defending 3A state champion Bellevue Wolverines in Bellevue.
Lincoln started slow against the pesky Falcons, who gave them all they could handle early but could not dent the scoreboard, as Lincoln went into the locker room with a 12-0 halftime lead. Foss twice got inside the Abes’ 20-yard line, but failed to capitalize both times.
Lincoln took control early, with Jonathan Hardnett finding the end zone from five yards out early in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead. They added to that lead midway through the second quarter as Love found Kashawn Johnson for a seven-yard touchdown pass to make it 12-0.
The Falcons cut into the lead early in the fourth quarter when quarterback Omar Morris beat the Lincoln defense on a scramble to cut the lead to 12-7. But the Abes would answer back when Love hit Rayshaun Miller with a nine yard touchdown pass with 8:26 to go in the game for a 19-7 lead, and would tack on two more scores to close out the scoring.
While Love had a great night on the offensive side, the Lincoln defense held the Foss offense to a mere 123 yards on the night. With the win Lincoln finished 5-4 overall, and 3-3 in Narrows 3A play. Foss fell to 1-8 overall, and 1-5 in 3A play. The Falcons will close out coach Pat Johnson’s first year at the helm with a crossover game against Stadium on Friday night at Mt. Tahoma Stadium.
