The Lincoln Abes piled up 388 yards rushing and jumped out to a 39-0 halftime lead in an eventual 47-14 blowout win over Foss tonight.
Julius Colwash got the Abes started on their first drive, scoring on a 26-yard counter run to put Lincoln up 7-0 less than three minutes into the game. Colwash caught a 14-yard TD pass from Richard Johnson on the next drive as the Abes took control. Colwash was the star of the night, rushing seven times for 75 yards and two touchdowns in addition to the touchdown reception.
Emmanuel Thompkins, in limited action, rushed for 134 yards on 12 carries, including a breakaway 64-yard score to put Lincoln up 19-0 in the second quarter. The Abes scored four touchdowns in the second quarter to put the game away, as Colwash followed with a nine-yard score, Julian DeLeon had an 18-yard scamper and Johnson broke loose to score from 43 yards out. Johnson would finish with 78 yards rushing on just five carries.
Darius Byrd gave Foss a bit of life in the second half, returning the opening kickoff 71 yards to the Lincoln 14 and catching a touchdown pass from Nick Burton on the following play to put the Falcons on the board. Byrd would later add a 30-yard TD catch and finished with four catches for 45 yards and the two scores, while Burton was 6-for-11 for 71 yards and the two TDs plus an interception.
Lincoln suffered a scare in the third quarter when Thompkins, the team's main rushing threat, went down with an apparent ankle injury, but Abes coach Mike Merrill said afterward his star running back should be fine. The Abes have a big showdown against Wilson next week, while Foss travels to Capital.
