Lexing, Barsh lead Abes past Foss

Lincoln charged out to a double-digit first quarter lead and held off Foss tonight to come away with a 64-55 win, avenging an earlier loss to the Falcons and keeping their hopes of a Narrows 3A title alive.

The Abes’ main scoring threats, Tre’Shaun Lexing and Isaac Barsh, came up big all game long, as Lincoln built a 23-13 lead in the first quarter. Ar’Mond Davis – who finished with 14 points and three three-pointers – gave the Abes a 26-13 lead with an early three in the second quarter, but Foss’ Dezmyn Trent answered with four consecutive free throws, as the Falcons’ junior forward finished with a game-high 22 points, 18 in the first half. Barsh’s put-back with one second remaining in the first half put gave the Abes a 34-27 lead as the teams headed into the locker room.

Davis then hit two early threes in the third, propelling the Abes to another double-digit lead at 41-31, but the Falcons came charging back again thanks to a basket and two free throws by Dontiea Hankins.

Foss’ Jerricho Ballard brought the Falcons to within 44-43 late in the third, and tied the score at 46-46 with another trey on the first possession of the fourth quarter. But Lexing and Barsh responded again, as the two would combine to score 12 consecutive points for Lincoln, including Lexing’s coast-to-coast layup that put the Abes’ up 60-53 with just over a minute remaining. Lexing led the Abes with 20 points, while Barsh added 19 points.

With the win, the Abes improve to 5-1 in league play, a game behind Wilson, while Foss now sits at 3-2 in league. Lincoln hosts Wilson on Jan. 30 in a monumental showdown that could determine the Narrows 3A title.
