Bethany Montgomery lead the way for the Lady Rams tonight with 19 points as Wilson beat the Yelm Lady Tornados by a score of 71-44 at the Harry Byrd Gym to improve to a league-leading 6-0, (13-2 overall), one game ahead of Timberline.
Wilson got off to a fast start - leading 19-9 at the end of the first quarter - and they never looked back. Tia Briggs chipped in with 13 points for the Lady Rams, while Kaysha Fox added 11. Jaynani Cababat led Yelm with 13 points.
The Lady Rams game plan was simple, play an up-tempo brand of basketball to try and wear down the Lady Tornadoes, and it worked to perfection, with good crisp ball movement on the offensive end and playing in-your-face defense on the defensive end. Leading 38-17 at the half, Wilson coach Michelle Birge was able to empty her already-deep bench to get some valuable playing time for most of her younger players.
While the game was never in doubt for the Lady Rams, watching the three leading scorers perform shows their upcoming opponents why this team is a threat to win it all. Montgomery, the team’s leading scorer, can do it all from anywhere on the court with her quick first step and athleticism. Briggs uses her size to great advantage in the low post to create havoc for any opponent, while Fox runs the point flawlessly while buying open three-pointers if you leave her alone. Circle Feb. 3 on your calendar, as the Lady Rams host the Lady Blazers from Timberline with the Narrows 3A title on the line. Barring any upsets, this one will decide it all with also the top seed to the West Central District at stake too.
