Join the conversation for City Council candidate selection

RR Anderson's cartoon ballot of the City Council candidates.

The Tacoma City Council Study Session at noon today will be held in the City Council Chambers, located at 747 Market St as well as be carried live on TV Tacoma, Channel 12 in city limits, on both Click! and Comcast cable systems and streamed at www.tvtacoma.com.

But it will also be a matter of discussion at computer terminals around the Sound with Feed Tacoma founder Kevin Freitas hosting a twitter discussion at http://twitter.com/#TacomaD2.

Local cartoonist RR Anderson has also crafted a ballot people can use to vote for their favorite, although the actual decision rests with the City Council.

The candidates seeking appointment to the District 2 council seat vacated by Jake Fey, who is leaving the council following his election to the House of Representatives, are: Monica Alexander, Philip Cowan, David D'Aniello, Carolyn Edmonds, Jon Higley, Patricia Lecy-Davis and Robert Thoms.

Each candidate will be able to make opening statements before fielding questions from the council.

At the end of the interviews, the council will go into an executive session to discuss applicant qualifications. And, at the 5 p.m. council meeting that day, a motion may be made to appoint an applicant to the vacant position for Council consideration. Council members receive an annual salary of $41,269 for their part-time position with the city.
