Historic schooner Adventuress to offer tours, sailings

The 133-foot National Historic Landmark schooner Adventuress is underway for her 100th sailing season and is coming to Tacoma. She will be open for free public dockside tours on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Foss Waterway Seaport.
Adventuress is offering 3-hour public sails on Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5. Saturday’s sail is from 3-6 p.m. Two Sunday sails are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. Tickets for public sails are $55/adults and $25/youth (under 18). Sound Experience Members sail for free on all public sails (a 12-month membership costs $60/individual and $95/household). Register online at or by calling (360) 379-0438.
During public sails, participants are invited to join the crew to raise the sails, take a turn at the helm, and learn more about emerging issues in Puget Sound waters and our world’s oceans from enthusiastic, knowledgeable shipboard educators. Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops will serve ice cream aboard the Saturday afternoon sail as part of an educational partnership to bring public attention to the microplastics in our waterways.
Puget Sound’s environmental tall ship Adventuress is owned and operated by nonprofit Sound Experience with a mission to educate, inspire and empower an inclusive community for the future of our marine environment. In addition to programs for schools and youth groups throughout the region, Sound offers summer programs for teens and families in the San Juan Islands.  For more information, visit or on Facebook at “Sound Experience aboard the schooner Adventuress.”
