Harmon Brewing toasts recently re-opened Murray Morgan Bridge

Harmon Brewing Company will debut a new beer in honor of the recent re-opening of the Murray Morgan Bridge, on Tacoma's 11th Street, and its 100th anniversary, which is Friday, Feb. 15.

Beginning Valentine's Day, the Harmon's 11th Street India Pale Ale will be served at Harmon Tap Room, Harmon Hub, Harmon Brewery, Rock the Dock, Pacific Grill, Office Bar & Grill, the Swiss Tavern, Meconi's Pub & Eatery, the Parkway Tavern, the Melting Pot, El Gaucho, the Red Hot, Tacoma Comedy Club, Anthem Coffee and Tea, Treos, the Mix, Puget Sound Pizza and TWOKOI Japanese Cuisine.

“For the 11th Street … I used 11 different varieties of hops,” Jeff Carlson, the Harmon's head brewer, explained. “And then, for the 100 year anniversary, the hops will provide an IBU level of 100.” He's referring to the International Bitterness Units scale, which measures bitterness in beer. It only goes to 100, by the way. So that's gonna be one bitter brew.

The 11th Street IPA will also be among the beers Harmon Brewing is bringing to this weekend's Big Beer Festival, which will take place in two 4-hour installments, starting at noon and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Tacoma's Foss Waterport Seaway, 705 Dock St. There will be a related story on that event in this week's City Life section. Meanwhile, you can find ticket info on the Tacoma Craft Beer Festival web site.
