Freshwaters, Alongi win city titles

Stadium senior Cameron Freshwaters won the boys’ race while Wilson sophomore Shelby Alongi emerged with a victory in the girls’ race at the All-City Cross Country Meet yesterday at Wright Park.

Freshwaters finished in 16 minutes and 57.3 seconds, four seconds ahead of teammate Shay Glackin-Coley, as six Tigers finished in the top ten to claim the team title as well.

“I definitely had a lot more training going into this year, so I feel a lot more prepared,” Freshwaters said. “I feel a lot stronger.”

Alongi set a personal best in the 5,000-meter race by finishing in 21 minutes and 31.7 seconds, almost 30 seconds faster than second-place finisher Audrey Holloway of Stadium.

“It means so much,” Alongi said. “I’ve worked so hard for this.” The Tigers, though, again had six of the top ten finishers to claim the girls’ team title.
