Clover Park High School student wins Gates Millenium, Dell scholarships

The future looks bright for Clover Park High School’s Zoey Selby. Selby is first in her graduating class, is a Washington Scholar and the recipient of a Gates Millennium and a Dell Scholars scholarships.
The Gates Millennium Scholars Program selects 1,000 talented students each year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice. The $20,000 Dell Scholars Program provides its students with resources and mentoring beyond initial financial assistance to ensure they have the support they need to obtain a college degree.
“Zoey has been accepted at a number of colleges in Washington and is waiting to hear from additional schools on the east coast,” said Jennifer Dixon, career and technical education counselor. “Zoey is a true scholar athlete and is as competitive in the classroom as she is on the track and field.”
Selby has a passion for good health and is compelled to promote healthy living, physical fitness and nutrition for everyone. For her senior project, Selby is developing a crossfit event for Memorial Day to honor veterans who gave their lives in the line of duty. She would like to pursue a degree in community health at Brown University and is considering medical school as a future goal.
Selby said she developed a love of learning at an early age.
“I was reading below my grade level as a second-grader. With encouragement from my mother and grandparents, I developed a love of learning that has continued throughout my educational career.”
