Audio: Roberta Flack recalls genesis of her classic ‘70s hit “Killing Me Softly”

Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel's iconic ballad “Killing Me Softly with His Song” is considered one of the greatest love songs of the rock era thanks to Roberta Flack's Grammy-winning rendition from 1973. (See also: The Fugees, Al B. Sure, etc.) It's sure to be on the set list, keeping everyone's post-Valentine's Day love buzz going, when Flack headlines Tacoma's Pantages Theater on Feb. 15.

We'll have a Q & A with the legendary singer in Friday's paper. But we didn't have room in print to include her story about the events that lead her to her signature tune and of the first time she performed the cut at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
