Pierce Transit to offer free buses to Tacoma Dome memorial service for Officer Gutierrez

A memorial service for Tacoma Police Officer Reginald “Jake” Gutierrez will take place on Friday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome. All parking at the Dome will be reserved for the vehicles of local and visiting first responders. In addition, parking at the Tacoma Dome Station will likely already be full with weekly commuters. To avoid the parking and traffic squeeze, memorial organizers are asking members of the public to park at Cheney Stadium, 2502 S. Tyler St., and ride a free Pierce Transit bus to and from the service.

Flower donations for Memorial Service of fallen officer will be accepted at Tacoma Dome

Flower deliveries for the memorial service  for Tacoma Police Officer Reginald “Jake” Gutierrez's memorial service will be accepted at the Tacoma Dome, Security Gate #24, 2727 East D St. between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on 
Thursday, Dec. 8, and from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9.

Monetary donations can also be made at any Tacoma Police station with checks payable to the Tacoma Police Department - Officer Gutierrez Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo location or at the Tacoma Police Department, 3701 S. Pine St., Tacoma, Wash. 98409.

Staffer at Western State charged with sex crimes against patients

The Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Christopher Conley, 48, with four counts of indecent liberties for allegedly touching female patients at Western State Hospital.

“Our state hospital should be a safe place,” said Prosecutor Mark Lindquist.

On May 8, Western State Hospital Security was notified that several patients were alleging that a staff member, Conley, had sexual contact with them. An internal investigation was launched, and four patients reported being touched in a sexual way by Conley. The case was turned over to the Lakewood Police Department.… Read More

Community has place to grieve over officer’s death

The City of Tacoma has opened the Lighthouse Center, 5016 A St. through Friday, Dec. 9 for community members to gather to discuss last week’s tragic loss of Officer Reginald "Jake" Gutierrez.

Clergy and grief counselors will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. tonightto help facilitate conversations and provide resources for people.

Health Department announces mumps outbreak

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has issued an alert after Public Health Seattle-King County confirmed several mumps cases and are investigating several more suspected cases, most within the Auburn School District. Auburn is north of the Pierce County line.

Pierce County health care providers may also see cases of mumps. Symptoms of mumps include pain, tenderness, and swelling in one or both parotid glands (cheek and jaw area). Nonspecific prodromal symptoms may precede parotitis by several days, including low-grade fever, myalgia, anorexia, malaise, and headache.
