What’s On Tap

// Wingman Brewers expands into new facility, taproom open to the public Thursdays-Saturdays

What started as a home-brewing experiment in college among a few friends is gradually growing to offer some of Tacoma’s most in-demand craft beers. With the opening of Wingman Brewers Taproom, beer connoisseurs can experience up close and personally what it takes to create the popular P-51 Porter, Ace IPA and new brews alike. Located just a block away from Freighthouse Square, the industrial look of the new brewery fits perfectly with the brewers’ goal to provide flavorful, high-quality beer inspired by Tacoma’s legacy of hard work and determination.

Wingman’s taproom, which opened its doors April 21, will be open Thursdays-Saturdays from 2-11 p.m.

“We wanted to create a space where people can come and relax and try our beer for themselves,” said co-owner and head brewer Ken Thoburn. “We do all of our production on site, so people will be able to talk to us about brewing and experience the whole process.”

The new 3,500-square-foot facility will provide plenty of room to grow, which is necessary after the team outgrew the previous 1,100-square-foot facility after only a year in business.

“We’re Tacoma’s only standalone brewery, and I think a taproom like this is great for Tacoma’s craft beer scene overall,” Thoburn said, adding that the taproom will remain focused on Wingman beer, rather than growing to offer food or other types of alcohol. “I’m looking forward to having people come in and try our beers.”

In May, Wingman Brewers will begin offering Ace IPA and P-51 Porter in 16-ounce cans. Keep an eye out for this and other Wingman offerings in your local grocery stores. Full growlers will always be available at the taproom for $15, and each refill is $8.

Wingman Brewers’ taproom is located at 509 ½ Puyallup Ave. For more information, visit www.wingmanbrewers.com.
