Styx still rocks: A few scenes from Aberdeen

Styx headlined the D&R Theater in Aberdeen Thursday night, and Tacoma Weekly freelance music photographer Bill Bungard was there to capture all the action. Styx brought an arena-style setup to the 1,200-seat venue and delivered fan favorites from their 15 studio and eight live albums, the last of which was “The Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight Live.”

Tommy Shaw and James Young, members of Styx since the '70s, are the core of the group, rounded out by Ricky Phillips of Bad English and Coverdale/Page on bass, Todd Sucherman of Spinal Tap on drums and Lawrence Gowan doing well to fill the shoes of Dennis DeYoung on keys and vocals. Styx provides a great entertainment experience that shatters the need for any cover band.
