Ailing country legend Randy Travis' upcoming appearance at the Emerald Queen Casino, scheduled for Aug. 18, has been called off. Ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.
The singer – known for “Forever and Ever, Amen,” “On the Other Hand” and other hits – was admitted to Baylor Medical Center at McKinney, Texas on July 7, as he suffered complications from a viral heart ailment. While undergoing treatment he suffered a stroke, but his condition has since stabilized.
The root cause of his condition is idiopathic cardiomyopathy, a weakening of the heart caused by scarring, according to a video update posted on the singer's fan site (http://www.randytravis.com).
“Mr. Travis does have a family history of cardiomyopathy, and (complications are) likely related to that,” said Dr. Michael Mack, a cardiac surgeon from Baylor Medical Center who is featured in the video.
